Violent incidents in the deep South decreased by more than 60% during Ramadan following stepped-up security measures in certain villages, according to the Internal Security Operations Command (Isoc) Region 4. Col Thanawee Suwannarat, deputy spokesman of Isoc Region 4 Forward Command, said attacks had dropped by 66% when compared with the number of incidents recorded last year. The measures were part of the Fourth Army's efforts to deter militants from carrying out attacks, he said. According to Col Thanawee, violence during the holy month intensified in 2016 which saw multiple bomb attacks and casualties. The situation has improved in years since and this year saw a significant decline.
